Mustache March is coming

OK, so Steve and I are getting ready for mustache March. My beard is getting real beardy and Steve...well, he is going to try his best. The picture of the left is of Steve around 1998 or so. This is the only picture I have been able to find of him with a mustache. I have a lot of pics of me with a mustache but I took this picture of myself at a party on Saturday to give you an idea of where I am starting from. Should be fun! Check us out next week for the new photos. We will keep taking pictures and loading them on Flickr as the month progresses. They will not look quite as cool as these dudes, but we will try our best.

UPDATE: I was scheduled for a root canal and sat in the chair at the dentist's office but after a few x-rays (see pic of my huge teeth on the left) it turns out I don't need any work done...at least not yet. I kind of feel like the condemned man on the gallows who gets a stay of execution but understands that they are going the keep the rope ready just in case. $75 and a missed day of work. I guess it could have been worse. Best case scenario I never get one done. More likely is I will be back in that fucking chair before Fall. Oh well. What can you do?

I mentioned that I fell into the Sarlacc pit of nerdom by getting into World of Warcraft. I am only a level 6 but if you want to come over and pwen me please feel free. I can barely fight a cold as a level 6 but I am dumb enough to fight people much stronger than me. I have the power of flight! (As in I flee when attacked!) If I stick with it, I will let you know. Feel free to recommend other time sucks that I can get into.

The music in today's podcast is really a mixed bag of nuts. The opening song won the Oscar for Best Song this week. It's mellow and awesome and you should buy it on Amazon.com like I did as soon as I heard it. The song in the middle of the show was Marvin the Paranoid Android. This was on an old Dr. Demento CD that I found God knows where but I love it. If you didn't recognize the voice or the name, Marvin is a character in Douglas Adam's Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In the recent movie of the same name the Earl of Awesome Alan Rickman voiced the role of poor Marvin. Love it. The final song was the only thing we found that had mustache in it. Nirvana's Mr. Mustache. I had never heard this song until this podcast. Of course you can buy it on iTunes or anywhere else you can get mp3s.

Happy Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day! Well, we recorded the week's episode on the 13th but most of you will listen to it either on or after Valentine's Day 2008. I hope you had a date! Steve is married and thus has plans, but I am going to a Lost party. That basically means that I gave up on love and will hang out with the other losers. We will call ourselves the others.

In today's show we talk about my British teeth, the Potomac Primaries and of course sumo (of course!)

I don't think Steve said who he voted for but I was upfront and admitted to not voting at all. That's not to say I didn't want to vote, I was just to late in registering in D.C. to be able to vote in the primary. I was going to vote for Obama and am happy he won all three primaries. I did my part, I let my 50 odd friends on Facebook know I was an Obama supporter. Check out my Facebook page here and let me know who you are rooting for in 2008.

We spent the second half of the podcast talking about sumo of all things. I think we got to this subject after Steve updated us on his selfari account. After reading Dynamic Sumo and watching a National Geographic special on the sport, Steve is ready to start watching sumo. The only problem is that we live in the US and it's not exactly all that popular. Some websites you can visit to learn more about the sport are of course the Wikipedia page and sumotalk.com (which is really for sumo nerds like me but they have a lot of great links as well)

The opening song of today's podcast was Weird Al's Cavity Search, in tribute to my rotten teeth. The intermission song was from Monty Python Sings and the closing song was from Asian Kung-fu Generation's Haruka Kanata. Look for them on Amazon or iTunes. Don't be a moron, buy the DRM free stuff.

Have a great Valentine's Day and I hope you get some!

Michael
