The powers that be announced recently that they are going to stop selling
Zima. This was not really sad news to me. It was a bit shocking, as I didn't even know they were still for sale. Steve and I have a funny story about
Zima. When the stuff originally came out it was not available everywhere. As it turned out, it was not available in the DC/MD/VA area when I first heard about it. Steve and I didn't know this and went on a very long, very fruitless
Zima run back in college. At the time both Steve and I didn't really like beer.
Zima promised to be the beverage that we could order and not look like a total girl. (This is not true as anyone who ordered a
Zima in the past more than likely had a vagina or an honorary vagina.)
Well, we drove around for hours and hours and came up empty. It was our Harold &
Kumar Go To White Castle moment sans the marijuana. We drove in MD, DC and Virginia. (Gas was about $1 a gallon back then.)
I don't remember when I ended up trying my first (and last)
Zima but it was a bit of a disappointment. I decided to stick with beer and thankfully grew to love it. Check out the beer ground Steve and I host on
Flickr here.
R.I.P.
Zima. You made a good run for such a terrible, terrible malt beverage.
