American Gladiators, Oscars and the Death of Heath Ledger, all on today's Dead Air Podcast!
Happy January 22, 2008. News of the day, Heath Ledger dies, Michael is smitten by a possible transsexual German and Steve learned how to read. A normal show to be sure.
Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in New York City. Very sad to see a young actor die who had so much talent. If you were not aware of Ledger's work check out the new trailer for the new Batman movie coming out this summer.
R.I.P. Heath, you will be missed.
Steve talks about all the book reading he has been doing as of late. He just finished Stephen Colbert's I Am America (And So Can You!)
Steve gave it a half-hearted three stars out of five. Not bad considering he never watched the show!
All that book reading has left Steve watching way less television. So to pick up the slack, I have been doing double deuty, watching all the truly horrible reality TV shows now on the air. (Damn writers strike!) There are diamonds to be found in the dung pile that is Network TV. One of them is the reincarnation of American Gladiators on NBC. I am quite smitten with one of the female gladiators. Steve likes Crush but I am more into Helga. You decide which you think is better.
The music in today's show comes from Oscar Nominated Juno. I bought this CD today at Borders in Washington D.C. with a 40% off coupon. Nice. The first track is from a guy who came from the same city Steve and I grew up in, Columbia, Maryland. Represent!

Beard index
I'm growing out my beard and need to think about what style to go with for the winter.
I've had my share of crazy beards in my day. This one is when I lived in Japan, around 2002.

Happy New Year! Where's the Excedrin?
Steve and I had slightly different experiences this past holiday season. While Steve, the family man, stayed at home with his wife and kids on Christmas Eve, I was taking shots of sambuca off an ice luge. New Year's Eve, Steve was asleep by 10PM, I was trying my best to blow a .01 in the breathalyser so I could drive everyone one home. (I was the designated driver for Christ's sake!) Good times.Enjoy the show! If you want to hear more from Todd Snider, the guy who sings the Happy New Year song at the end of the show click on the album cover art below.
